Parents keep calm and help your kid to cope appropriately!

Back to School List (2022-2023) | Eduresourcesforkids (45)

This is completely up to individual parenting styles, on how parents want to get their lives ready and aligned with the school routine, the basic 15 ways might help moms from getting anxious and stressed out!

1. Get organized. This is the time to start fresh and get your back-to-school routine down pat.

Create a system that works for you and your family, whether that means setting up a homework station or coming up with a bedtime routine.

2. Get supplies: Of course, your child will need the basics like pencils and paper, but don’t forget about other important items on the back-to-school list like a backpack, lunchbox, and school clothes.

3. Set up a learning space. If your child will be doing virtual or in-person learning this year, it’s important to create a dedicated space at home where they can focus on their studies.

This can be as simple as setting up a desk in a quiet corner of your house.

4. Get their immunizations up to date. This is an important step for keeping your child healthy during the school year.

Check with your doctor or local health department to make sure your child is up-to-date on their vaccinations.

5. Review safety procedures. Whether your child is attending school in-person or virtually, review important safety procedures with them such as what to do if they feel sick or see someone with a gun.

6. Discuss bullying. Unfortunately, bullying is a reality for many kids.

Talk to your child about what bullying is and how to stand up to it if they see it happening.

Back to School List (2022-2023) | Eduresourcesforkids (46)

7. Choose after-school activities. If your child will be participating in after-school activities this year, now is the time to sign them up. Sports, clubs, and other extracurriculars can help kids make friends and stay active.

8. Start a homework routine. Homework can be a struggle for both kids and parents. Help your child stay on top of their assignments by setting up a regular homework routine.

9. Get to know their teacher. If your child is attending school in person, take some time to introduce yourself to their teacher.

If they’re doing virtual learning, reach out via email or other methods to introduce yourself and get to know their teacher.

10. Help them make friends. Whether your child is starting a new school or going back to their old one, they may be anxious about making friends.

You can help by arranging playdates or joining a parent-child social group.

11. Prepare for early mornings. Getting back into the school routine can be tough, especially for younger kids who are used to sleeping in.

Start transitioning them back to an earlier bedtime a few weeks before school starts so they’ll be well-rested come the first day.

12. Review the bus rules. If your child will be taking the bus to and from school, review the rules with them. This includes things like staying seated, not talking to strangers, and getting off at the right stop.

Back to School List (2022-2023) | Eduresourcesforkids (47)

13. Pack their lunch. If your child will be bringing their lunch to school, start packing it the night before to save time in the morning.

Include a variety of healthy food and homemade food items that they’ll enjoy eating.

14. Set up a bedtime routine. Getting enough sleep is crucial for kids, especially during the school year.

A few weeks before school starts, begin transitioning your child back to an earlier bedtime. This will help them be well-rested for the first day of classes.

15. Have a positive attitude. Finally, the most important thing you can do to prepare your child for back to school is to stay positive about it and have confidence in your kid!

Show them that you’re excited for them to start the new school year and they’ll be more likely to feel the same way.
